I am so sorry to hear about your mother. What she needs now is support and love and not to worry about financial items. When she passes, so will the debt. If it is in her name the CC companies cannot hold you or anyone else responsible. As you say, she has no assets so the creditors will just have to write off the debt. Let her use her money for the things she needs and enjoys. The CC companies and Collection agencies can wait. Don't grieve yourself with the debt. Spend some quality time with your mother.
