I had 2 items that i had paid already(i think they stay on for 5 years) on Chex. I had to switch banks because my local branch closed. Of the 5 or 6 I went too, only one wouldn't open a checking or savings accout (Bank One) as long as I had signed letters from the 2 institutions on Chex that I had indeed paid the debt. Shop around and don't be afraid to ask. If the new bank is willing, demand a letter from the old bank stating the account has been paid.
