Okay, there is a lawsuit out there according to a bunch of lying CAs and you've never been notified? First order of business is to contact the appropriate court and find out if they are telling the truth, whether they've properly 'served' you and the like.

The SOL is Georgia appears to be 4 years, which is why they are pressing now, before it gets out of SOL. You need to ascertain when exactly you last paid. If you can't find any information telling you that from your personal records, try obtaining all of your credit reports and find out what is contained on them. If the date is prior to the date they filed with the court, then you can use SOL as a defense. See Whychats site for specifics.

The attorney who contacted you is probably an ambulance chaser trying to drum up business. Lawsuits are public records.

If you want to pay DO NOT DO SO WITH CHECKS FROM YOUR ACCOUNT AND DO NOT LET THEM HAVE ANY OF YOUR BANK INFO. Insist on a money order payable based on the agreement you reach.

If the debt is past the SOL, you are not required to pay anything (except morally). Remember, the original creditor has already written it off and Credigy paid just cents on the dollar and you have no responsibility to them since the OC has likely written it off.

If you still want to pay, get a reduction in the amount from Credigy and make sure, in writing, that it will be removed from your credit reports and that the unpaid balance will not be passed on to the next sleazebag CA down the road.
