You might be required to give the court your bank statements. If you go to Why Chat's website, there is an excellent timeline for filing bk. I think the time frame is about 6 months, unless they suspect fraud.

The main thing the court is looking for is evidence of fraudlent transfer of funds or property - selling an expensive house to a relative for five dollars (ok, that is an exaggeration, but you get the idea). OR

If someone runs up a lot of credit card debt and then files bk right after, it might be denied. However, some filers have accumulated large debts and successfully filed due to an unexpected change of fortune.
