Can a repo man do this?

Howdy, I'm trying to help a friend with a situation and wanted to get some opinions. My friend financed a car for her son. The son is makeing the payments and is late. The repo man showed up at her house wanting the car. My friend explained that she's buying the car for her son and he doesn't live there. The repo man said he would be back in 24 hrs and if the car wasn't there, he would either take one of her other cars (worth much more) or bring the sherriff to arrest her for larceny. Any comments on her next move. Are these threats real or even legal? Thanks in advance for this and past help!!!
