After only (11) months tenancy--I would sue or counter-sue this bastard if necessary. Unless you were having Bacchanalian orgies and rubbing pizza and wine into his (already damaged) carpets. Unless he can show you took a sledge hammer to the refrigerator--I think you are entitled to your security deposit back--less last month's rent. File a dispute with all CRA--denying liability.
