I have 2 questions that may be important:

1. Is this car in-house financed? Meaning - Did the dealership finance it themselves without an outside lender or bank?
2. Was the "Other" car that the repo man threatened to repo financed through the same dealer?

If the answer to both of the above questions is "yes" then your friend needs to read her contracts. If you have multiple cars financed from the same dealer, that dealer may have a caveat in the contract allowing the repossession of both cars if only one is unpaid.

If the answer to either of the above questions is no then the repo guy is certainly out of his gourd (and outside the law if he tries to take someone elses car).

What everyone is telling you about repo is true, but the above items was not taken into account.

Another item:
When your friend filled out the contract with the dealer there was probably a statement asking her to provide the address of the location the car would be kept at. If the car is not at this location, and she does not tell them where it is, this can be considered "larceny" (the unlawful taking and removal of another's property with the intent of permanently depriving it from the owner), or "theft" in some states, and this could be considered "fraud" if she intentionally gave a false address for the car's location. It does not matter if she bought it for her son and he doesn't live there - she is the responsible party and is legally bound to provide the address.
