I think perhaps there is a misunderstanding here. If a collection agency is reporting on your CR, and you settle with them, in exchange for them deleting THEIR entry, yes, that can work. many will - they just want the money.

If the OC has another entry (same debt) that they have sold or transferred to the CA (or CA's_, they can report for the full 7 years, regradless of the deal made with the CA.

If more than one entity is reporting the tradeline, make sure you know who really owns the debt, before you make any offers.

The others can then be disputed off, because they do not have the authority to settle, or at that point even to collect. It's a fight m but it can be done.

The OC can often be another matter, depending on who it is. Some will be nice and other are mean as the dickens. I have seen some delete when presented with proof that the CA had settled. I have seen some re-age the debt and report in a manner to make it appear newer than it is. Fact is, if the debt was sold/transferred, they must report that way, with a 0 balance.

Many will continue to report as if they still have the debt and are still charging fees and interest, updating every few months to make it stick to you like glue. Look for any excuse to go after them.

Some will leave it alone, i tgets old and after a while has very littel effect on your score if you have established good accounts over time. Deletion is best, as we all know.
