It is just an agreement between you and the collection agency. The end result is that they get money, you get the collection entry deleted from your credit report. A paid collection is as bad as an unpaid collection on your report. They tell you they will update it to "paid" just say no, you'll keep your money. Should they wish to reconsider, put it in writing.

Do everything in writing. They cannot be trusted, don't listen to them no matter how good it sounds. Don't believe them no matter what!! It has to be in writing, and it has to say what YOU want it to say.

If you don't feel confident about it, keep reading and studying til you do.
