Searching for a mortgage can bring all kinds of weird things to light. Seems Citifinancial placed a charged- off account on my credit report in Aug 2001. I did not have an account with Citifinancial. The amount mentioned, however, matches exactly, the amount of the account I had with The Associates. Near as I can figure, there was a merger between these 2 companies, and somehow my account got transferred to Citifinancial and assigned a new account # BUT not before I filed for bankruptcy in June of 2001. The Associate account was in the filing, and it was discharged. This is the first I've heard about this. Does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing, or is there something suspicious going on? And why would they charge-off an account that was not delinquent at the time of the bankruptcy? Only 2 months had passed from the time of the filing to the charge-off.
