your credit reports are not automatically tied together after you get married. i have been married for two years...i have bad credit but my spouse's is good...and we see no references to each other's credit on our reports. what we are not going to do is apply for joint credit until mine is cleaned. my bad credit will affect the lender's decision.

all of my bad credit occured long before i got married. i got no new credit accounts since i got married. if you apply for joint credit, then your credit WILL affect your spouse's. if you are going to apply for a mortgage or car loan, it would be best to do it is your spouse's name only for the time being.
