I've found that a good way to determine whether or not you creditor will sue is to check PACER (http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov). It's a pay service and you may be able to get your own state's records for free, so check that out first.

Anyhoo...

You can search cases by party name. If you use it, search for cases in your state where your creditor as the plaintiff and an individual is the defendant. Check the dollar amounts involved and see if you can find a trend in dollar amounts that trigger suits.

That seems like a good prediction as to whether or not you will be sued.
