I have a judgement on my credit, which I only recently learned about, from either 1999 or 2000 the 'Big 3' have different dates, I was positive that I paid it but when I follow the trail from the original creditor FirstSelect to the people that have it now Credigy they say it is unpaid ($1986.72). Why does a collection agency have this debt? I dont know who I think should have it, but it just seems odd. Anyway when I called them today I was told that they bought it from the original creditor, again not sure if that matters. What this all boils down to is I am trying to buy a house and have to have the judgement show as paid before closing. Has anyone delt with these people before? I plan on calling and offering a settlement telling them that I am doing my best not to file bankrupcy and ask if they will settle for xxx amount. What is a good amount to offer them since this account is so old, or should I even call, does telling them I may file bankrupcy make them feel they should take whatever they can get? Are there other ways to get this removed?

Thanks for the help
