80% of all judgments are never collected. However, some people, with money, will settle a case after a judgment is filed or before - just to avoid having it in the records. CA lawyers are basically shotgunning- filing 30/40 cases at at time, most people don't show, so they get a default judgment. It is a numbers game. If they collect a fraction of what they go after, they are ahead of the game.
