When I was 15, my mom placed me as an authorized user on her Sears and Discover cards. She worked 2 jobs, so this way I could run errands for her after school (post office, grocery store, etc) and just use her cards without any hassle. When I was 21, I tried to get a credit card and was having trouble. When I looked at my credit report, the Sears and Discover accounts of my mom were on my report, and since my mom has a less-than-stellar financial record (impending bankruptcy), those 2 accounts are negative blemishes on my credit report. Stuff on my credit report that are actually MINE are all in good standing. I know that the bad stuff will go away eventually as I build good credit, but no one will give me credit as long as this bad stuff is there. I spoke with someone at Experian, and he said they can request that Sears and Discovery remove me from the account, but that it would involve an investigation, etc. I got the feeling that it wasn't a sure thing to have my name off my mom's accounts - and off my credit report! I'm fresh out of college and trying to build good credit and strong finances. What can I do about this? (besides strangling my mom!!) Do I have any options? On another note, my credit report also says I owe money to Allied Interstate. Any idea on how to contact them? A google search was completely not helpful! Thanks everyone!
