Have you ever received a preapproved credit card offer in the mail?

The credit reporting agencies make money by selling your information to companies who might make you preapproved offers, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY they also can sell this information to collection agents/attorneys who will actively seek you out in order to collect on supposed debt they THINK you owe.

If you OPT OUT it prevents the credit reporting agencies from selling your information to others period! So potential creditors will not send you preapproved offers and in my opinion the possibility of collectors "coming out of the woodwork" is greatly lessened.

It would be to your benefit to opt out. When you call the Opt-Out number you have a choice to do it for two years or permanently. If you elect the permanent OPT OUT they will mail you a form to complete and return. Your choice on whether to OPT OUT for 2 yrs or permanently.

hope this helps.

Marvbear.
