Your home is safe. Homestead exemption: Connecticut: A judgment debtor generally is entitled to a homestead exemption, up to the market value of seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000.00), of the real property occupied by him and his dependents as a residence, less the amount of any statutory or consensual lien which encumbers it. (Section 352b(t).) But, after judgment they can still place a lien on your home. If you ever want to sell the house or refinance it--it will have to be paid off before a loan or sale will go through. They can also seize your bank account entirely. A wage garnishment will be 25% of wages. Consider Chapter XIII (Wage Earner Plan).
