More likely, they will send you written interrogatories- questions- which must be answered in writing. May ask for copies of bank statements, pay stubs, etc.

You must return this document in the time stated and you must sign in front of a notary. That means that you are swearing under oath that your answers are true. In this case, lying is perjury which is a felony in most states.

They have to notify you either way- whether in person in court or by interrogatories.

Usually they only bring you into court if you don't respond to the written request.
