How does one get a house lien applied?

I loaned a friend a bit of money to pay off some home improvements among other things. She signed a paper agreeing to pay me back under certian conditions. Well almost a year has passed and she has made only a few payments and is now talking of selling the house. Is there a way I can place a lien on it so I can get my money before she takes off with it?
