Parry, Thanks for advice. In the meantime, my husband has a good job offer. If he takes it, we'll have to move back to the U.S. At that point, we'll be fair play for the collection agencies. We'll also have to buy a car at some point and it would be nice to be able to own house again. I'm also nervous about renting a house and having our credit checked. The only way I can see to resolve all this mess is to pay off our creditors who still have our accounts (hopefully by settling for a very low amount instead of a payment plan that will end up with us never paying off the accounts) and hoping that a lender will understand that we had one bad year out of 22 years. I still need to understand how to try to negotiate with the collection agency, who owns at least one account. We're just looking at options at this point, but as I see it, we are in the best position to negogiate right now, since we are outside the country and my husband is currently a student with no real income. Any suggestions? Many thanks.
