How can I convince attorneys that I'm broke?

I've read several times that if the creditor/law firm who is after you thinks you have no assets they are less likely to waste time with you.

I really AM broke with no assets (I rent and have an old car) and my bank account is always basically empty. I just eek out a living and the type of pay I receive I could easily divert to friends who could pay my few bills for me.

But how do I convince the firm that even if they went after me (while not admitting debt) they would never get a dime?

Also, couldn't I just file Bankruptcy after they get a judgment?

Thank you all
