How about this one? I keep receiving threatening letters from this outfit and the debt is from someone OTHER THAN ME! I have done my due diligence in disputing that my identity is different than the jerk who wrote the bad check. I have even provided phone no./contact names for JBC to validate my dispute themselves! Do you think they have?

I have filed complaints with BBB in EVERY state that JBC operates - CA, MA, NY, and NJ - as well as my own state. I have also filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.org), and Consumer Protection agencies and/or Attorneys General in all states they operate. If this debt were mine, it would be an entirely different story!

Moreover, if all of you are so fed up with this company, why is your complaint not listed on the National BBB website as well as the state BBB websites in which this company operates? Per BBB, this company has unsatisfactory ratings in several states due to complaints (whether answered or not).

All individuals who are being harassed by JBC need to also contact the stores which JBC is hired to collect for and let them know what is transpiring. They need to know that their own companies are not being represented fairly or legally. Not only that, but per MA Division of Banks, it is wise to check to make sure that JBC & Associates has licensure to collect in your state. Also interesting to note, the latest letter received shows a new letterhead - JBC LEGAL GROUP, PC. Is this an alias?

Finally, the FTC website offers a news article about other collection agencies in NJ who violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act enacted by Congress in 1977, as well as a description of the law itself. It's unfortunate that individuals actually pay this outfit just to avoid the harassment - whether the debt was incurred or not!!

Don't pay them unless the debt is yours, or unless you've done your legal homework! I used to be offended by these people, now I'm doing what I can to help others.

Finally, keep copies of ALL correspondence, send all mail via Certified Mail, and most importantly, KNOW THE LAW!
