The HR director at my employment informed me today that a credit collector sent him a fax, asking him to verify my employment. The credit collector has never sent me one piece of mail and only recently made contact with me via phone. He would never give me his address or tell me the law firm he is sopposably calling from. The HR director didn't send the info sheet back to the creditor.

Is all of this legal? The debt in question is a credit card debt of $1k...I have no assetts. I tried to make a payment arrangement with this collector but he told me I had to either make a lump sum payment in the amount of $1K (and I could make payment arrangements for the rest..also wanted my checking account info so he could withdraw the $$$ electronically.I did not give him that info) (now the debt is sopposably $3,500) or they would sue me. He had told me that he had verified my employment and would be garnishing my wages. He also told me several times I should copmly with him or he would embarass me by having the sheriffs office serve me at work. Any advice, ideas, suggestions? I'm open to hear it all..this guy is really getting to me.
Thank you
