Here's the deal... about 11 years ago I had trouble paying off my Sears card. I moved out of State and then moved back a few years ago. I bought a new car and a new home since I have been back and wasn't asked about the Sears debt. I assumed it was forgotten and I went on.
Yesterday I got a letter from a law firm (Sharinn & Lipshie) saying that I MUST pay the debt and I will be in contempt of court and all these other threats.
Does the State of New York's SOL apply in this situation? If so, how do I go about handling this?
The original debt was for around $1,100. Now they are asking for over $3,000.

Thanks in advance for you help.
