The business model for debt buyers is to spend 1/3 for the debt, 1/3 for the welfare payments to the phone drones in collection, and 1/3 for the obscene profits for the ringleaders of the racket. Collect America pays around 10 cents on the dollar for freshly charged off accounts. They eventually collect 25-30% because these charge offs are so recent, and they go to great lengths to conceal the fact that you are NOT paying your OC, but rather a pennies on the dollar garbage buying collection agency masquerading as a law office. If you would like to be part of the 75% that refuses to contribute to Collect America and their criminal organization, do not engage with them. Do not admit or acknowledge ever having this account. Do not make token payments. Do not speak with them, and do not send them any letters until you and they are SOL. You may send them a limited c&d if you absolutely can’t stand the calls.

An aside to anyone on this forum. Has anyone EVER been sued by Collect America?? I know in their history they have sued, but the frequency must be extremely low relative to the number of people saying they’ve been “threatened” with lawsuits, so has anyone here ever actually been sued by Collect America??
