Debt Settlement company or do it myself?

I posted a message below but didn't get a lot of responses, so I thought I would re-phrase my question. If I decide to go the debt settlement route, should I try to do it on my own or use a debt settlement company? Does anyone have a recommendation of a good debt settlement company? Are they all bad? I am afraid of the stress of trying to do it myself. Does everyone who uses debt settlement get sued?
