Charge off with 80% payments? - HELP

I recieved a letter from Amsouth bank stating that my payments are insufficient and they are charging off the account. I'm in Alabama and the balance is around 9K. the payment on the card is 212 and I've been sending 150 religiously for a little over a year. This was OK with them before - now charge off? What's the point of paying? I've heard you should pay soemthing to look better in court if sued and I've heard just the oppisite - Don't pay. I really don't have $150/mo. to pay just to go to collections or charge off. Anyone know what the best or better move is?
