In Reply to: CA reaged a 12/96 debt, how to remove from CR? posted by Jennifer on February 09, 2004 at 19:17:33:

Hi all,
I actually have a situation similar to Jennifer's. I recently reviewed my credit report and noticed that I had a delinquent account (in collections) with Verizon, that says it was opened in 2002. That was suprising to me because I do not have an account with Verizon. After doing some snooping I called the colletion agency to find out more about the account. Apparently in 1997 I had an account with Bell Atlantic telephone for my home service in Washington, DC. When I moved out of state I didn't realize that I owed them $103. Long story short, Verizon bought out Bell Atlantic and assumed the debit but was never able to contact me and inform me of the debit.

Now it seems that the collection agency may have reaged the account and placed it on my credit report. I am preparing to pruchase a home soon and would like to get this off of my account as quickly as possible, but I am unsure of what to do. I have been checking various websites and I was not sure if the statute of limitations would apply to my case or if I could nail the collection agency for filing fraudulent information on my credit report. What I am sure of is that I did not open an account with Verizon in 2002 because by then I had started using my cell phone as my primary phone line. Why Chat and others can you help??

Thanks,
Jenn
