I do not think there is any risk at all to you from an account charged off and sold to collection agencies more than 10 years ago.

However, you SHOULD make sure your prior addresses are deleted on your credit reports, AFTER you Opt Out.

The only time there is a "risk" in bank mergers is if there is a fairly recent chargeoff from a bank card, and your newly merged bank has had you sign an agreement to guarantee any and all account you have with them AND you receive a written notification that all prior agreements are "transferred" or "in force" for the new bank entity.
