Yesterday a CA attempting to collect on a credit card that was charged off in 1988 called me. The balance at the time was $1100. There has never been a judgment on this account. I live in CT, which has a 6-year SOL. Since the CO occurred 16 years ago, no CRA's are reporting it.

My question is:

Since I know that this is a legitimate debt, do I request a VOD in hopes that they will be unable to produce it? This would also help me to establish the charge off occurred in 1988. Since this occurred 16 years ago, I no longer have any records to support the date of my last payment. Or, do I just send them an SOL letter.

BTW, the CA is not licensed in my state, nor have they sent anything to me in writing. This came out of the blue, and IO

Thanks in advance!
