Send the C&D letter and spend YOUR money on YOUR family and settling with OC's. I fell for Collect America's crap to the tune of around 1300 before I realized that my moeny wasn't going to MBNA. At $500/mo I had a slight problem with paying Collect America's lawyer. Paying them does nothing for your credit report, does not settle with MBNA but I did find a nice picture of Mr. Harold Scherr CACV's "lawyer" in Greece whooping it up on vaction.

Sit tight and wait them out. Take the money and buy a phone that lets you cut the ringer off.
