I have an account that was placed with one of the ruthless collection agencies that has been discussed on this board. Now it has been transferred to a law office in my state. So far my strategy has been to ignore ignore ignore but I'm wondering if I should send these new clowns a validation letter? On the one hand it seems like a good sign that the ruthless agency is now out of the picture, but on the other hand, an attorney firm in my state can sue. I've checked with the Bar association and these are "real" attorneys. I know they are still just debt collectors and need to follow the laws just like a CA. Also they are offering the same settlement that the CA did a few months ago, so am I correct in thinking that their 30 or 20 or 10 day "deadlines" are bogus? If they can't validate then they'll have to leave me alone and if they can, then I'll see an attorney and try to get a better settlement from them. Does this sound like a workable plan? By the way, this alleged account is still within the SOL for my state.
