ladyinred..anyone explain a lien on a house to me?

i just dont get it yet, im sorry. in texas..they can attach a lien on ur house..but u cant have a second mortgage. i know what a lien is. i dont know what it means they can DO. i was told it means i couldnt sell it. that makes no sense cause how would they get any money then? let it sit and rot..not smart. anyone who can explain this to me would be greatly appreciated and i apologize in advance for my denseness. :) this is one threat im getting frm triad, the lovely people that they r.
