Collection Agency called re 1988 credit card debt

I live in CA, on Wed. 2/11/04, I received a phone call from Camco Collection Agency stating they bought up old debts from another collection agency and said I owed $10,000 dollars ($6,000 interest) from an account established in 1988. In 1994 I refinanced my house and nothing showed up on my credit report as having a visa with a certain company or outstanding debt on it, it is also not showing on my 2002 credit report. The woman got nasty with me starting yelling when I asked to speak to her supervisor after asking for this credit card company's phone number, hung up on her. Today she called again, stating I must pay up, I told her I was in contact with the Attorney General's office. Is this so-called debt out of the SOL now? Should I get an attorney?
