The same thing happened to me with my Discover card - transfered to First Select and then to Credigy who then transferred it to Vital Recovery. (I'm working with a credit counselling agency as well.) I had finished paying off the debt with Vital Recovery but never received a letter stating such - even after asking a couple of times. A month or two later Credigy transferred my account AGAIN to Evergreen - the account that had been paid off but according to Credigy I still owed $78. Needless to say I got caught in a vicious circle of "I can't give send you a letter stating your account is paid off because we don't have the account anymore - once it was paid off it went back to Credigy, they have to give you the letter." (Vital Recovery) and "According to our your account you still owe $78 so we aren't going to send you a letter because you still owe us. We can't get rid of this in our system until you get a letter from Vital Recovery. (Credigy). See where I'm going with this?!?!? Back and forth...and the person I kept talking to at Vital either didn't know what they were talking about or they were rude and not listening to me. Finally I got to talk to the supervisor who took care of the whole thing - called Credigy and got everything straightened out. Credigy was suppose to be sending me a letter stating that the account was paid off - that was in 12/03. I still haven't received a letter. Just be careful of these places. If you pay off your account - get a letter stating so!! Saves time and frustration if something gets mixed up. Just wanted to add my story. :)
