Background: I live in VA, 3-year SOL. Citibank account last payment made 7/1/2000, first CA letter dated 1/11/2001... Yesterday, I received a packet that said "Official Notice" on it. After opening it, I couldn't stop laughing, it was sooooo hilarious. A collection letter from NCO (about the 10th, maybe) stating that they have "made an arrangement with Capital One to resolve this charged-off account" by offering a spankin'-new Crap 1 Visa card. The "original" charged-off amount of approx. $3,900 will be transferred to a "Special Purchases" section that will carry NO interest and that the accrued post-chargeoff interest of approx. $2,200 will be waived if I accept this card. How nice... Thanks, but no thanks, I say. Since I have kept all collection letters for this account, I have iron-clad proof that this account is beyond SOL so there is NO way that I will accept their "generous offer." I'm wondering if this is a new tactic employed by the CAs to get people to foolishly pay on SOL debts and also if Crap 1 is the only company that's doing this or are there others out there? PS: The thing that REALLY cracked me up was that on the NCO letter, at the bottom below the required Mini-Miranda, there is the following: CAP1SOL. I'm wondering if Crap 1 KNOWS that this is a SOL account and that they are S**t Out of Luck on getting my "approval." Hmmmm...
