The fact that a person did not respond to service does not neccessarily mean there are grounds for vacating a default judgment. In addition, unless there is proveable FRAUD, such a motion is usually limited to a year after knowledge of the judgment.

Depending on your State, the judgment may no longer be enforceable anyway. If First Select has sold this account to another CA, it is likely it is no longer enforceable.

In any case, paying the new CA will not have ANY effect on the judgment, unless there is a filed assignment of the judgment with your County Courthouse.

I suggest you, Opt Out, wait a few weeks, delete old addresses from your credit reports, wait a few weeks, dispute the judgment on your reports.

DO NOT respond to any CA in any manner shape or form until you have done all that. THEN, if the new CA is reporting, you can send them the SOL letter and follow it up with a dispute to the CRA.
