SOL Letters

Do SOL letters really work? I've got a pair ready to mail today (certified) to Asset Acceptance and a law firm they hired (both of whom contacted me by mail demanding payment or face the possibility of lawsuit). The default date on the account was June 1999, so it indeed is outside the SOL.

I'm just worried that the SOL letter may cause the collectors to "call my bluff," so to speak. If I write a letter invoking all kinds of statutes and laws and FTC violations, I wonder if that will just end up ticking them off and going forward with a lawsuit?
