12 year old debt

I just got a call on a 12 year old credit card debt. I told the third part CA that I was not going to pay this debt. Can they mess with my credit, or are they pulling my leg. They offerd me a settelment of $200. Should I pay it and move on , or just ignore it. Thanks!
