Never give the credit bureau(s) a reason.

You might get it done simply asking them to verify it, but when you ask them to verify it, don't give them any reason why you want them to verify it. You should never tell a credit bureau why you want them to do anything at all. It isn't necessary and is quite often counterproductive.and it can lead to legal problems later on down the line. And although yours is probably one of the rare exceptions, it is almost always better to demand validation of the account rather than a simple verification. There is a lot of difference between the two.

: I had an account that was sold to a collection agency that has since closed in '99. Since that time it does not show to be sold to another agency. How do I find out where it went to or is it considered no longer my problem since that agency closed? Show I have Experian try to verify the debt and hope that it gets dropped off my report?
