Use of multiple business names in an attempt to collect a single debt is a violation of federal law under the Fair Debt Collections Act.
Getting the names and addresses as you propose to do could be very helpful because if a debtor gets collection letters from multiple companies trying to collect the same debt, that is a violation of federal law and you can file charges against all of the multiple names used.
