: I HAVE ABOUT 6 CHARG-OFF'S ON MY CREDIT. THEY ALL DATE 1996 WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE AND GOT ALL THESE CREDIT CARDS THAT I COULD NOT PAY FOR. I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE A CAR WITH A VERY HIGH INTREST RATE. AND I AM NOT PLANNING ON BUYING ANYTHING FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF YEARS. MY DEBT IS UNDER $1,200.00. I AM GETTING A BONUS ON MY JOB THAT WILL COVER IT AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF I SHOULD PAY THESE CHARGE OFF'S OR WAIT FOR THEM TO FALL OFF ON THERE OWN.

It's a very hard question to answer. Depending on where you live, these charge-offs are probably going to be past the statute of limitations in another year - they may be past already in some states. And they'll be coming off your credit report in a couple more years. What you could try is offering to pay them off IF the lenders agree in writing to take them completely off your credit report.
