Under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act,
you can order them to stop calling your place of
employment. You can even order them to stop making
regular damand calls to you at home.

Also note that a creditor must have sued you in
court and won a judgement before they can have your
wages garnished. They MUST have a judgement in
order to seize a debtor's bank accounts, wages,
etc.

The FDCPA prohibits collectors from threatening
legal action that they cannot or don't intend to
actually take.

Go to the "Credit Problems" section of this site,
and read the "Collection Agency FAQ" article for
general advice on dealing with collectors, including
your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices
Act.

Good Luck.
