three days ago a summons was handed to my daughter at home while I was at work (my husband was home as well). it is from law firm Mel S. Harris in NYC regarding a providian account that I have not paid on since March 2001. (My husband was injured in a work-related accident in Dec 2000 and we have been going through a financial nightmare ever since.) This is only the third notice I received from them. After the initial notice last October, I sent a letter requesting validation but unfortunately did not send it certified (I had not seen this website yet or was aware of that advice -- wish I had!) Of course they did not reply and sent another notice in December asking if I would like to settle. Now this. There is no court date or index number on the summons, nor is it notarized. Is this just an attempt by them to get me to settle? The name of the court as well as county is listed and it certainly "looks" like a real summons. What should I do? Thanks to anyone who can help.
