I don't know how to prepare an answer, but when I went to court I filled out a form to file as an indignent(spelling) person which means I cant afford to pay because I'm low income or currently having financial difficulties and the judge waved the appearance fees. Call your local court house and explain that someone is sueing you and ask about waving court fees. Hope that helps.
