Husband a druggie

Wife had to go along with loan from credit for husband and husbands mother for sake of her baby and well being. Loan from a credit union in another state where they then lived. Husband still there. Boat and two cars have been recovered by credit union. Now four years later they are coming after wife for close to full amount of original loan. Wife has divorced druggie husband two years ago and gets no required support from him. Can wife negotiate with CU to be responsible for only her half or less of outstanding debt and work out some payment schedule?
