Good settlements can be reached if you do them smartly with a paper trail.
Get your settlement in writing first, make sure that your settlement letter states that you will receive a release letter once the settlement is paid. The release letter should state that this account is settled in full and that the credit reporting agencies will be notified of this and will update the reports as such.

BTW, not all CA lie as this poster stated. This poster has no real idea on settlements as she never did any. The information she continues to post is all second hand information. This posters "strategy" was to ignore the CA calls and letters, I believe she was sued twice and then filed a bankruptcy afterwards.

In my opinion this is no way to handle ones affairs.
