SOL question

Hello - I am trying to find out if a credit card account of mine is past the SOL. The last activity on the card was in Dec. 1997, however, for a while I was trying to make payments on it thru a consolidation company (which screwed me over), so my last payment to them, which went to my Discover card was in Aug. 2003. I am in Virginia & I am not sure if b/c I made a payment in Aug. if that means the SOL starts in Aug. 2003. Can somebody help me??? Thanks in advance!
