No it wouldn't be so bad. However they will ask you to provide details of your financial situation and some have been known to use the information to squeeze you or to hurt you or your spouse. Please remember this, you let the account go and the relationship is now adversarial. They can and will use all information they get from you against you for the purpose of collecting a debt.

If you call them, go to a pay phone in a town about forty miles away from home and call there. Do not ever call from a friends house, a neighbors house, a family house, your cell phone or a place of work. They will tap that number and they will harrass you constantly to get paid.
