Is this Legal?

I got a letter from an attorney with a settlement offer. The letter had one date on it, the postage meter stamp date was five days later, and I received it in the mail four days after the date on the metered stamp. The date said the offer was only good for ten days after the date on the letter, which would mean that unless I sent them a check for payment in full the very next day, the offer was no longer available. Is this legal? I'm keeping the letter and the envelope and also made a note on the envelope as to when the letter was actually received. Even if I desperately wanted to pay I completely broke, so it's really a moot point, but this just doesn't seem legal to me.
